Bret Langston is no stranger to delivering babies. No, he’s not a doctor or even an EMT. He’s a firefighter at the Austell Fire Station in Austell, Georgia, who has responded to the call at least half a dozen times over his 28-year career.
They’re one of his favorite calls, but perhaps his latest might have beat out all the rest.
On February 10, he helped deliver his granddaughter at his own station!
His daughter Hannah was on her way to the birthing center when she realized there wasn’t enough time. However, her father’s fire station was just down the street.
“I was like, this is not right, this is not what we have planned at all,” she said.
She arrived just in time because moments after calling for an ambulance Hannah’s mom, April Langston along with Hannah’s doula helped deliver a healthy baby girl named Adalynn.
“It was unexpected, unusual, but it was a blessing and I wouldn’t change it. Everything went well,” Hannah said.
About a dozen firefighters were present at the station when Hannah gave birth.
Austell Fire Captain Mitch Parrott said Hannah giving birth to her daughter at her father’s fire station was meant to be.
“We are more than just coworkers, we spend one-third of our lives together. We are like family here,” he said.
Adalynn and her parents returned to the fire station less than two weeks later and they plan on making frequent visits to see her grandfather and where she was born.
Little Adalynn’s birth may not have gone how Hannah thought it was supposed to go, but I believe it worked out this way for a reason.
