Former Bremerton high school football coach, Joseph Kennedy, made headlines when he was fired for leading a post-game prayer session on the field.
After fighting for his right to pray with students, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Kennedy’s favor, allowing him to return to his coaching job.

As of March 15, 2023, Kennedy is set to reclaim his position pending a standard background check. While the school district cannot interfere with Kennedy’s prayer sessions, the specific wording of the injunction is still being debated.
The court is expected to review proposals from each side by November 8, 2022. Kennedy’s attorney, Jeremy Dys, believes his return to leading a prayer at the fifty-yard line is “inevitable.”
